Unexpected Perch PB.
Welcome in our blog where we will share with you some of our most memorable fishing adventures.
First blog post is a short story of unexpected perch personal best caught by my 7 years old son Franek. Trip happened without any plan. We didn’t plan to go fishing that day and I was just sitting in my workshop working on lure orders. When I went downstairs to make some coffee I met my son and asked him how is he doing. He said that he is having a bad day 😮 Months of lockdown and homeschooling without meeting his buddies was definitely hard on him. I asked him if there is anything that I can do to help him. Maybe we can go fishing and spend some time together on the water. He replied no and left to his room.
Couple of minutes later he came over saying “Daddy I actually would like to go fishing” so we started to prepare some food and got the boat ready.
1h later we were already launching a boat with one target species in our mind – big pike. The day was pretty cold and we knew that pike are a little deeper and water is still very cold so we decided that plan for the day will be trolling. We set up our rods and started searching depths in search of monster pike.
About 1h into trolling we spotted something that looked like small ball of fish on our Humminbird fish finder. It that was the biggest we have seen in the last hour. Because we also had some perch rods with us we decided that we are going to give it a try and see if those fish on the sonar have stripes! We used spot-lock function in our Minn-Kota to anchor the boat and started to reel in our pike rods.
40cm+ club!
After changing the rods we connected with fish in our first casts landing very fast two really nice perch 34 and 35 cm. Then we started changing spots and started looking for more fish but they were pretty hard to find. We were already very happy with the catch but what has happened next was extraordinary. Franek was in the middle of the fight with something that looked like a big perch. When he got it up to the surface he was so excited that he reeled the fish right to the rod tip and made it almost impossible for me to grab it. 3lb perch jumping at the end of the rod was pretty scary experience. I had like 4-5 failed attempts but finally I managed to land/grab the fish. Of course there were 2 landing nets in the boat but both of them were sitting in the storage under the casting deck! Quick measurement and we realized that we are dealing with 40cm+ fish! 😮
After that memorable fish we managed to land a few more smaller perch including daddy and son double hook up.
Whos got a bigger one?
Couple of days later Franek got another decent perch!
